Blackspot Your iTunes
Well I got all upgraded to the new version of Mac OS to find that Apple had found a way to put advertising into iChat. The really crummy thing about it is that it’s there because of a specification made on someone else’s computer rather than my own. If you pull down the availability message that displays your current iTunes track, Apple then tries to sell that song to me on their iTunes Music Store. I hate stuff like that and they didn’t include any way to turn it off. Not to be played for a fool, my buddy Zack Schilling, one of the minds behind Lefterer among other things, whipped up an awesome response to Apple’s invasive new advertising. We call it Music Status Blackspot.
Music Status Blackspot simply removes the insidious little link from your buddy list so you don’t have to be reminded constantly of how much Apple wants your money. It takes its name from the good work the Adbusters folks are doing at Antipreneur.org. It’s a free download and the one app will patch iTunes to kill the links and unpatch it in case you want to revert to the old state. Rock on.
