    Double 7 Film Site Launch

I am one of the directors that works with Double 7 Films, the production company that Pete Chatmon created. Double 7 has just introduced a relaunch of their main page (not to be confused with Double 7 World, the company’s arts and trendspotting blog) as part of a big push by the company to move into its next phase as a major production house. Capital is being raised for the next three features and new client relationships are being formed. I couldn’t possibly be more excited to be involved.

    Ch-check it out.

    Job Listing

This is apparently a job listing for a paparazzi (paparazzo? paparazzus?). I always wondered how one got into that line of work…

    My Twitter

I figured that my current tweet is stupid enough to call everyone’s attention to the fact that I have a twitter now. It’s in my sidebar! It’s also on their website.

Last night I dreamt my basil plant was so hood that it wouldn’t grow unless you rapped for it. I woke up doing that Xzibit and Kweli cut.

    Ch-check it out.

The Captain has Turned On the Seatbelt Sign

My website here is one of many under the badcharacter.com umbrella. We are moving the whole amorphous mess to a new hosting service in the next couple of days, so the ride may get a little bumpy. Don’t worry if we drop out, we’ll be back soon.

I would like to take a moment to thank JB Interactive for being such a wonderful host for so many years. They are about as customer-friendly as a hosting company gets and they really kick ass at what they do.

    Chromeo - Momma’s Boy

Fresh video. But what’s most important here is that famous people are still spelling it momma. It’s definitely mamma. Chromeo is definitel 100% wrong on this one.

    Ant on Fox

My former boss and current business partner for a venture you will hear more about in the coming months was just featured on Fox Business Channel:

I know, I know. I got no love for the Sly Fox and neither does he, but this is just some good clean fun on the business channel. And hey, he’s not a shitty conservative fat guy in a dress shirt that doesn’t fit, so maybe Fox is trying to branch out?

You can get a bunch of wisdom from Anthony every day at his blog and you can buy his incredibly excellent book, the Shut Up and Shoot Documentary Guide there too—yeah I know that page looks like some weird huckster site, but the book is dope and that’s the truth.

    For Reel

I’ve been working on cutting a reel together for myself and this is what I came up with. I even got a little saucy and threw in some footage from one of my yet-to-be released music video projects. Tell me what you think! (It’s a work in progress…)

Viacom Sends Nastygrams to YouTube About Shit They Don’t Own

The Consumerist has a piece about an indie filmmaker who discovered that Viacom was fraudulently claiming ownership of clips of her movie that she posted on YouTube. This is bonkers as it gives Viacom access to user information related to the content in question even though they have nothing to do with it, thereby totally validating fears people had about Viacom getting access to user information at all.

I have a friend who has been working for Viacom in their effort to identify which content is theirs on YouTube. Essentially, they have people on the payroll whose job it is to surf YouTube all day and log clips that are owned by Viacom. See where the potential for error comes into play? This kind of thing is basically a foregone conclusion.

Meanwhile, Lion’s Gate, unlike Viacom, is clearly not run by morons.

    Amusing Internet Phenomena

I never heard of this Gary Spivey guy before, but I sure love his swagger.

Film distributors are ducking the critics more and more in order to have bangin’ opening weekends. Boo hoo. It’s not like the people stupid enough to go see Epic Movie deserve the money they spent on their tickets, is it?

Dawkins went on Al Jazeera and it was actually a somewhat intelligent affair, at least compared to when he went on The Factor. You know what, though? I just don’t get why anyone goes on O’Reilly anymore. Dawkins goes on to argue his point with sincerity and the shit O’Reilly throws at him is just so absurd as to be self-canceling. What’s the point of talking to him? Don’t you just lend him credibility by appearing on his show? Someone please explain.

DO NOT WATCH THIS HORRIBLE MOVIE OF MAGGOTS EATING A LITTLE BOY’S HEAD. IT WILL MAKE YOU THROW UP.

I sure like Seed’s Daily Zeitgeist feature.

Double 7 World has this hilarious roof sex video, which is by the same director/animator that did this thing I posted the other day as well as one of my all time favorite music videos.

And finally, this is apparently what it would be like if fonts were people. (Pro tip: if you install the font Gotham HTF, which costs a mere $400, you can see my post titles in their true glory.

    The Missing Trooth Is Out

When I lived in the East village I decided to have a birthday party at a bar down the street. The guy tending bar that night happened to be Jake Lefco. Predictably, I was fully swerved by the end of the night when Jake and I got to talking about music. He said he was a rapper, and I drunkenly bought his album And You Are? for $7.

Next morning I woke up and saw this thing I’d wasted money on, and regretted it. But then I stuck it into the system and let it play, and it quickly became one of my favorite hip hop records of 2006. No kidding.

Jake and I went on to collaborate on the video for “Comfort Zone,” the first single off his new album, the Missing Trooth. The new record is now out, and I’ve been spinning it a bunch today. I have to say I’m liking it even more than the first one. Jake’s flow has improved. His stage show is really great, which is crazy since he doesn’t tour like a madman. He’s a natural. When he gets on stage he commands the respect of even the most jaded rap audience. I highly recommend you cop this record. He makes rap songs about things I didn’t even know rhymed. He’s pushing the boundaries. Don’t sleep on this.

    Ch-check it out.
